Budget-friendly Quinceanera Ideas

Quinceanera Lighting Alternatives

Quinceaneras and moms, are you on a tight budget for your quince?  That doesn’t mean you can’t have fun.  In fact, I’ve found that slumber parties can be even more fun than traditional quinceanera parties.  They are definitely more creative.  Think about all the things you and your friends can do over the course of an entire night!

Instead of renting a party hall in San Antonio and having everything catered, why not invite all your friends over for the night?  Everyone can dress up and go out to dinner at a nice restaurant.  (quinceanera dresses can be rented for the night if you don’t want to buy one.)  You can all come home where the quinceanera slumber party will begin with a beautiful quinceanera cake of course!  The quinceanera and her friends can then stay up watching movies, playing games, singing karaoke (machines can be rented), or whatever they want to do for fun.

What to wear?  Pajamas of course!  And a tiara for the quinceanera!  Remember to buy lots of finger foods.  Veggies and dip, chips and salsa, etc.  The girls will want to snack!  Ice cream is a great idea too.  You can even set up a homemade ice cream station and offer toppings like sprinkles, reeses, chocolates, etc.

Quinceanera Themes San Antonio

How do I decorate?  It depends on your daughter's theme.  You can buy a quinceanera princess kit (or whatever theme your daughter likes) and turn a basement or living room into a living, breathing fairytale.  Lighting is a key component.  Buying or renting things like lava lamps or lights with dimmers can create a very cool atmosphere for the girls.  Colored light bulbs are another cheap idea.

Another, less-expensive alternative is to buy glow-in-the-dark stars and put them up all over the room where everyone is sleeping.  The girls can play games like “Waking Snow White” where a girl lays down in the star-lit room and the other girls make noises or do things to try and make the ‘sleeping’ princess laugh.  Whoever lies there the longest without laughing wins a prize.  Or they can play games like truth-or-dare or light-as-a-feather, stiff-as-a-board. Google that one!

There are so many things you can do.  Madrinos can come over and give the girls manicures and pedicures and facials.  Moms, if you have a friend who is a good storyteller, they can come over and tell a good ghost story in the star-lit room.  You should cater activities to your daughter’s tastes.  This is her special day.  Make her feel loved.  Take the money you would have spent on a traditional party and put it to good use.  Get creative.  You will be amazed at how much you can change a room or basement by some creative quinceanera decorations and mood lighting.  You can even do a decorated slumber party after a traditional quinceanera party if you want.  This makes for good bonding time for the girls.

Moms, understand that just because you are on a tight budget doesn’t mean you can’t make your daughter’s quince one to remember.  After talking with some twenty-somethings that had their quinces years ago, I’ve found that the ones who had their quince at home remember the night more than the girls that had a traditional party because they remember how beautiful and intimate the decorations were and how much work their mother put into making it special.  So if you do choose to do it at home, don’t be afraid to go all-out.  Your daughter will remember the day for years to come!
